A GOOD 2014 YEAR END FOR GNKCA’S KUDZAI MHANDU CHESS WISE AND ACADEMICALLY!!

Kudzai Mhandu (12) massacred all the other GNKCA members on the 15th of November 2014 and had a 100% performance winning all 4 games. But he is not only good in chess! Just like his other fellow club members who sat for the 2014 Grade 7 exams he had a splendid academic performance! Today (2 Dec 2014) has been a wonderful day on
an Academic note. Grade 7 results are out and
the young chessmasters did extremely well!! Benefits of chess, that’s why in some parts of Europe its part of
the curriculum. Tapiwa Mawire (Sunningdale pri.) 4units, Hazel
Ruzane (Avondale Pri) 4units, Kudzai Mhandu
(Marimba Pri) 5 units, Mpumelelo Moyo (Westlea
Pri) 5units. Very brilliant Checkmates!! Tapiwa Mawire will be at Mazowe High form 1
next year, a very good boarding school
academically and chess wise. GNKCA coach
assists the Mazowe High Chess Club team every
Wednesdays and Fridays during school days.
Mazowe High are in the top flight schools
division 1 league. Other giants in the league are
Prince Edward, Goromonzi, St Georges, Mufakose
2 High, Mabvuku High, Visitation, St Dominics for
the 2015 season. With Churchill and St Ignatius
having been relegated in the 2014 season. We
welcome new comers Visitation and St Dominics! In the 2014 season the ranking was as follows:
1. Goromonzi 2. Prince Edward 3. Mabvuku 4.
Mazowe 5. Mufakose 2 High 6. St Georges 7.
Churchill 8. St Ignatius. GNKCA is wishing all the
teams all the best in the coming season! Kudzai Mhandu who scooped the GNKCA 2014
Closed Tourny Shield will be at Gokomere High in
Masvingo. Gokomere High is far away from other
Harare Chess giants, a 3 hour drive. So it cant be
part and parcel of the top flight division 1 league.
It is a giant on its own in the Masvingo Province
as it dominates immensely both chess wise and
academically. Gokomere fell in love with our
young players when GNKCA lifted a historic
milestone shield in June 2012 in the credible
Gokomere Festival beating giants Prince Edward,
Churchill. Kudzai was our board 3 and a mere
grade 5 and 10year old then. Collins was our
board 4 and grade 4, at only 9 years then. The
youngsters beat all the other 28 teams who were
all high school teams! Also we have our own GNKCA student at Prince
Edward Alpha Chaendera! He will be now in form
3 next year, and currently doing very well for the
PE chess team on board 2! In the historic
Gokomere Festival of June 2012 he was part of
the GNKCA team on board 2 doing grade 7 then.
The great Zhemba Jemusse was spearheading
the young kids attack and was form 2 then. Thank you brilliant GNKCA students!!
